                        MOTORIST KILLED AT BOWERS HILL

A 57-year-old man was killed Friday afternoon when his car skidded out of 
control on rainslick U.S. 58 and slammed into a clump of trees about a fourth of 
a mile west of Bowers Hill overpass.
Dead on arrival at Maryview Hospital was Thomas Terry O'Keefe of 1660 Park View 
Ave., Norfolk.
Traffic Patrolman W.O. Biggs said O'Keefe's car was headed toward Norfolk when 
it swerved out of control, crossed three lanes of traffic and crashed into the 
trees.
After striking the first tree, the car spun and sheered off another tree near 
the base. The impact threw O'Keefe from the car, Biggs said.
The accident occurred across the highway from the Bowers Hill Esso Service 
Station along a stretch of U.S .58 posted to warn motorists to reduce speed from 
55 to 45 miles per hour.
Biggs said witnesses saw the O'Keefe car veer off to the left after the driver 
apparently applied his brakes as the vehicle entered this zone.
O'Keefe, a service engineer for Sperry Gyroscope Co., suffered severe cuts of 
the head and bruises of the body, Biggs said.
A lifelong resident of Norfolk, O'Keefe was a son of the late John Joseph and 
Caroline Buchanan O'Keefe.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Marie C. O'Keefe; a step daughter, Mrs. Walter 
Gard of Fairfax; two sisters, Mrs. J. Frank East Jr. and Mrs. William L. Fowler 
of Norfolk; and three brothers, William A. O'Keefe, J.J. O'Keefe Jr. and Raymond 
V. O'Keefe of Norfolk.
The body was taken to H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments. Funeral arrangements were 
incomplete late Friday.

O’KEEFE, THOMAS TERRY — At a local hospital, Friday, April 8th, 1966, Thomas 
Terry, husband of Mrs. Marie C. O’Keefe, and son of the late John Joseph, and 
Mrs. Caroline Buchanan O’Keefe, in the 58th year of his age. Services at the H. 
D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, Norfolk, Monday at 10 a.m. Friends of the family 
are invited to attend. Interment, St. Mary’s Cemetery. The Rosary will be 
recited in the funeral home Sunday at 8:30 p.m.
