He had been in failing health several years. Active in public life since he was 21, he served eight years as Town Recorder of Berkley, was land assessor for Norfolk County, served on the county's School Electoral Board, was county sheriff, served in the House of Delegates, and was treasurer of the Jamestown Exposition. Prominent in financial circles in this section for nearly half a century, he also had been treasurer of the Berkley Permanent Building and Loan Association since 1926 and a director for 45 years. He had been a director of the Chesapeake Association for a like period. Co-founder with Alvah H. Martin, of the Merchants & Planters Bank in 1900, he later was assistant cashier and at his death was the oldest member in age and point of service on the bank's board. A native of the Butts Road District of Norfolk County, his late parents were George Martin and Mrs. Aquilla Old. Settling in Berkley at an early age, he was educated in the public and private schools there. He later attended the Norfolk Business College. Elected Recorder Soon after attaining his majority, he was elected by the Town Council of Berkley as Town Recorder, a position he occupied for four terms. He was land assessor in 1905 for the Second Revenue District of Norfolk County. Moving to Norfolk in 1907, he became assistant treasurer of the Jamestown Exposition and established his residence on the exposition grounds. He later was appointed treasurer and after the close of the exposition was named cashier for the receivers. He had charge of the exposition grounds until it was sold in 1912. While at the exposition, he served as a member of the School Electoral Board of Norfolk County. He also was chairman of the Democratic Executive Committee of Norfolk County, and was elected to the House of Delegates from the county for the 1912 session. In 1914 he was appointed sheriff of Norfolk County to serve the unexpired term of A.C. Cromwell, resigned. H?e served as a member of the Board of Assessors for the City of Norfolk in 1930. He was the oldest member of the Doric Lodge No. 44, A.F. & A.M. An Episcopalian, he was a member of St. Bride's Church, Berkley, for nearly 40 years. For a number of years he attended the Church of the Good Shepherd, Meadowbrook, where he was a past vestry man. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Annie Gause Old; one daughter, Mrs. Harry S. Morrisette; one son, George Martin Old; one grandson, George Martin Old, Jr., all of Norfolk, and a number of nieces and nephews. The body was removed to the Cox Funeral Home where services will be conducted tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. by the Rev. Norman Slater, rector of the Church of the Good Shepherd. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery. ******************************** Curtis Lee Old -- Funeral services for Mr. Old, husband of Mrs. Annie Gause Old, who died Tuesday, were conducted at the Cox Funeral Home yesterday at 10:30 a.m. by the RT. Rev. George P. Gunn bishop coadjutor, Episcopal Diocese of Virginia, and the Rev. Norman T. Slater, rector of the Church of the Good Shepherd. Pallbearers were William P. Butt, Howard G. Martin, John R. Sears, Guy R. Beale, Dr. W. Dean Preston, David T. Dumm, Dr. J.C. Sleet, Dr. Z. Vance Jones and Jesse J. Parkerson. Burial was in Magnolia Cemetery.
