Formerly of Norfolk and Point Harbor, N.C., Mrs. Old was the daughter of the late George Doniphan Parker Jr. and Lena Ottley Parker Lancaster of Norfolk. She was the widow of James Elisha Old Jr. of Norfolk who died in 1965. Mrs. Old graduated from the College of William and Mary in 1925 with a B.S. and from Columbia University Teachers College in 1944 with a M.A. She taught at Granby High School and for the Norfolk Public Schools for 23 years. She coached Women's Basketball at the former Norfolk Division, College of William and Mary, now Old Dominion University. Mrs. Old was an avid golfer, winning the 1929 Norfolk Virginia Women's Championship. She was a charter member and the first woman serving on the board of Duck Woods Country Club, Kitty Hawk, N.C. She scored a hole-in-one at Duck Woods. A 57-year member of Old Donation Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution and an associate member of Donegal Chapter DAR, she was also a member of the National Retired Teachers Association, AARP, and a founding member of St. Bride's Episcopal Church in Chesapeake. Survivors include a son, Arthur Doniphan Old, husband of Eleanor Markham Old, of Lancaster, PA 17601; a grandson, Lt. Cmdr. James Warrington Old, USN, of Pensacola, Fla.; and two great-grandsons, Master's Parker James Old and Tyler Curtis Old of Pensacola. A church service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Bride's Episcopal Church by the Rev. William C. Hoffman. Interment will follow at Magnolia Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church prior to the service. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk Chapel, is handling arrangements.
