HARRY OLIVER III, 44; WAS CO-OWNER OF FUNERAL BUSINESS

NORFOLK - Harry Diggs Oliver III, 44, of 1322 Upper Brandon Place, a co-owner of 
H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments Inc., died Monday in a hospital.

Mr. Oliver had been working with his father and brothers in the funeral business 
for the past 25 years.

His father, H.D. Oliver II, died Jan. 10.  H.D. Oliver II had operated the funeral 
home on Colonial Avenue since his father, H.D. Oliver, died in 1941.  The family 
opened another chapel on Laskin Road in Virginia Beach in 1964.

H.D. Oliver II was educated at the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science and 
Maury High School.

He was a past president of Consolvo Tent, Circus Saints and Sinners, and Post B, 
and a charter member of the Virginia Beach Tent, Circus Saints and Sinners.

He was a member of Travelers Protective Association of America, the Norfolk Yacht 
and Country Club and Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Cherry Oliver; a daughter, Elizabeth Theresa 
Oliver of Norfolk; a son, Harry D. Oliver IV of Norfolk; three sisters, Mary 
Frances Lambert and Betty Ann Goff, both of Virginia Beach, and Loretta O. Butler 
of Norfolk; and two brothers, John Patton Oliver of Virginia Beach and Martin V. 
Oliver of Norfolk.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at noon Thursday in Sacred Heart 
Catholic Church by the Rev. Vincent Connery.  Burial will be in St. Mary's 
Catholic Cemetery.

A Christian wake service will be conducted at 7 p.m. today in H.D. Oliver Funeral 
Apartments, Norfolk.
