The Virginian Pilot Wednesday June 25, 1969
Alton Rettew Onley, 78, of 5805 Lowery Road, Apt. 10 University Garden 
Apartments, died Monday night in a hospital after an illness of three 
months.
A native of Gates County, N.C., he lived in South Norfolk and Norfolk most 
of his life.
He was a retired crane operator with Swift & Co., Fertilizer Division, Money 
Point.
He was the husband of the late Mrs. Thelma Donahue Onley and a son of David 
Jackson and Mrs. Ida Stallings Onley.
He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Bessie Hazelwood of Norfolk; and several 
nieces and nephews.
The body will be taken from Graham Funeral Home to Magnolia Cemetery, 
Berkley, where a funeral service will be conducted today at 4 p.m. by the 
Rev. Carroll W. Lewis of Bethlehem Christian Church, Suffolk.
The family will be at the home of a niece, Mrs. Evelyn Sawyer on John 
Hancock Drive, Princess Anne Plaza, Virginia Beach.
