                        CONFEDERATE SOLDIER DEAD    

One by One They Join Their Comrades in the Great Beyond

Mr. Charles N. Overton, an old Confederate veteran, died at the home of his son-
in-law, Mr. W.T. Ferebee, near Great Bridge, yesterday morning at 6 o'clock.  
The deceased was seventy-three years of age and leaves one son, Mr. Charles E. 
Overton, of Portsmouth. 
He fought in the principal battles of the Civil War, among them being those of 
Chancellorsville and Fredericksburg.
He was wounded one time, in the head.  His war record is said by his comrades to 
be a very enviable one.  He also won for himself quite a distinction as a 
soldier in the Mexican war.
The funeral will be conducted from the residence where he died this morning at 
10 o'clock and the interment will be in Magnolia Cemetery about 1 o'clock by the 
side of his wife, who died several years ago.

The funeral of Mr. Charles N. Overton, who died at the residence of his stepson, 
Mr. W.T. Ferebee, near Great Bridge, Monday morning, took place from the 
residence yesterday morning at 10 o'clock.  The deceased was a member of 
Neimeyer-Shaw camp of Confederate veterans, several members of which attended 
the funeral.  The remains were laid to rest in Magnolia Cemetery.
