Virginian Pilot May 8, 1989

James "Bill" Wilson Overton Sr., 81, of the 4200 block of Van Luik Court, a 
grocery  market owner, died May 7, 1989, in Chesapeake.
Mr. Overton, a native of Aydlette, N.C., was the owner of Overton's Markets in 
Chesapeake.  He was a member of South Norfolk Masonic Lodge 339; Norfolk 
Scottish Rite Bodies, Khedive Temple; and Southside Lions Club. He was past 
president of Tidewater Rose Society and the past president of Tidewater Men's 
Garden Club.  He was a member of South Norfolk Baptist Church, Chesapeake.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Lane Overton, two sons, James Wilson Overton 
Jr. of Chesapeake and Keith W. Overton of Virginia Beach; a half-sister, Janie 
Wilson of Chesapeake; a brother, A.W. Overton of Chesapeake; a half-brother, 
Garland Overton of Benton, Ark.; five grandchildren and three great-
grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in South Norfolk Baptist 
Church by the Revs. D. Mac Brunson, Frank Hughes Jr., George Sweet and Nelson 
Hodges.  Burial, with masonic rites, will be in Magnolia Cemetery. Friends may 
join the family at the residence.  The body will be placed in the church at 1 
p.m. Wednesday.  Graham Funeral Hone, South Norfolk Chapel is handling 
arrangements.
