C. Owen Sr., Retired Food Broker Norfolk-Richard Clement Owen, Sr., 81, of 930 Spotswood Avenue, Apt. 1-B, a retired officer of Foote Brothers & Co., food brokers, died in a hospital Thursday at 3 a.m. after a long illness. A native of Portsmouth, he lived in the Norfolk-Portsmouth area all of his life. He was the husband of Mrs. Judith Berkley Owen and a son of Rev. Dr. Austin E. and Mrs. Henrietta Hall Owen. He was a member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church and a former vestryman of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Surviving, other than his widow, are three daughters, Mrs. John Carter Mathews of Baltimore, Mrs. Edwin C. Kellam of Norfolk, and Mrs. Colin G. Steele Jr. of Silver Springs, Md.; four sons, Richard C. Owen of Shaker Heights, Ohio, Austin E. Owen III of Virginia Beach, William L. Owen, and Peyton H. Owen of Norfolk; a sister, Mrs. Raleigh Moore of Branchville; 21 grandchildren; and a great- grandchild. The body will be taken from Cox Funeral Home to St. Andrews Episcopal Church, where a funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. by the Rev. Beverley Tucker White, rector, and Dr. Moultrie Guerry, retired. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery.
