Funeral services were held at 2 p.m.June 2 at Metropolitan AME Zion Church with the Rev. J. D. Cauthen, pastor, officiating. Mrs. Owens, a native of Hertford, NC, was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Nixon. She lived in Norfolk more than 65 years and was formerly a member of John M. Brown Church under the pastorate of the late Rev. John M. Hatchett. She later joined Metropolitan AME Zion Church where she worked as one of the oldest members of church Colonial Club. For years she was a member of Daughters of North Carolina Widows’ circle. Mrs Owens is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Catherine S. Owens, and Miss Rosa Skinner; one son, Walter Owens; a son-in-law, Dr. J. H. Owens; and four grandsons. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery with Morning Glory Funeral Home in charge.
