Owens were conducted from the residence, 760 Fremont street, Friday, June 20. Dr. L. L. Berry, pastor of St. John’s A. M. E. Church officiated assisted by Dr. W. H. T. Squires, of Knox Presbyterian Church and Rev. D. J. Lee. Mr. Owens was the son of Mr. John B. and Mrs. Sophia Owens. He was drowned when he fell from the tug Coinjock, on which he was working anchored off Jamestown Island. The deceased was twenty-two years of age, and his sudden passing was a severe shock to his immediate family and friends.
