Born in Bessemer City, N.C., she was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, Norfolk, a former member of London Bridge Baptist Church and a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was the widow of Charles J. Owins, and was also predeceased by a brother, Leslie Creed Dobbins. Survivors include two daughters, Rebecca E. Owins of Durham, N.C., and Helen O. Scruggs of Newport News; a son, Charles J. Owins Jr. of St. Petersburg, Va.; two sisters, Bennie D. Peden of Gastonia, N.C., and Kathleen D. Wheeler of Belmont, N.C.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, by Chaplain Henry Thomas. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery , Norfolk. The family will be at the funeral home prior to the service from 12:30 to 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Trinity Baptist Church or St. Francis Nursing Center, 2 Ridgewood Parkway, Newport News, VA 23608.
