O'N. PALMER DIED ON STEAMER Well-Known Portsmouth And Norfolk Citizen Expired on Way to Washington A telegram was received in Norfolk yesterday morning announcing the sudden death of Captain George O'Neill Palmer of this city. The deceased left here in apparently good health on the steamer for Washington Monday night on business in connection with the Chris. Heurich Brewing Company, of which he was the general manager in Norfolk. He was found dead in his stateroom on the steamer on its arrival in Washington, D.C., yesterday morning, death resulting from heart failure. Captain Palmer was in the 68th year of his age. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Frank T. Warren, of Portsmouth and two half-sisters, and a half-brother, Mr. John A. Milligan, the latter being also of Portsmouth. The deceased was the son of Dr. Palmer and resided in Portsmouth for quite a number of years. He was heir to a large fortune from his grandfather, Mr. Bernard O'Neill, of Portsmouth, and was liberal in the distribution of his means for charitable objects. For a number of years he commanded the Chambers Fire Company, of Portsmouth, and was a large contributor to the purchase of the steam fire engine which bears his name and was for a period of six years clerk of the Portsmouth courts. Some years ago Captain Palmer made a voyage to Europe on a visit to his half- sister, who resided in the old country, who was the wife of a prominent French Navy officer, as was also his mother by second marriage. Few men were more widely known in this city and Portsmouth than the deceased, who was a man of genial and affable manners. His remains will reach here this morning on the steamer from Washington. **************************************************************************** PALMER - Suddenly in Washington, D.C., Tuesday, March 1, 1904, GEORGE O'N.
