Parker Struck by Motor Vehicle as He Trundles Bicycle Nathan L. Parker, 53-year-old carpenter, of 1703 East Liberty Street, Oakdale, Norfolk County, was killed by a truck which struck him on the Virginian Railway overpass, on the Bainbridge Boulevard last night about 6 o'clock. Parker was walking and pushing a bicycle across the overpass, in the direction of South Norfolk, when the truck, owned by the Orange Crush Bottling Company and operated by Lewis Rue, and going in the same direction, struck him, it was reported by Detective Leon Nowitzky, investigator for Dr. C.D.J. MacDonald city coroner. Parker was pronounced dead on arrival at St. Vincent's Hospital. Nowitzky said the truck driver explained that due to the rainfall and glaring lights of approaching vehicles, he had not seen Parker until the accident had occurred. Dr. MacDonald said Parker had multiple injuries of the head and chest. Mr. Parker was a native of Hertford, N.C., a son of the late Thomas Jefferson and Mrs. Mary Sarah Saunders Parker, and had made his home in this section 36 years. Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Hattie V. Parker; four daughters, Mrs. J.W. Horton, South Norfolk; Mrs. J.T. Porter, Portsmouth; Mrs. B.J. Shettle and Miss Catherine Parker, South Norfolk; a son, Nathan L. Parker, Jr., Portsmouth; three sisters, Mrs. H.C. Wright, South Norfolk; Mrs. Emmett Fowler, Benning, D.C. and Mrs. C.H. Harmon, Colerain, N.C., and four grandchildren. The body was removed to the Graham Funeral Home, Jackson and Jefferson Streets, South Norfolk, pending funeral arrangements.
