Parker of the 2000 block of Bamberg Place departed this life Oct. 24, 2002, in Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital with her family at her side. She was the daughter of the late Lucinda and Joseph Mackey Sr. She was a former employee of the Commodore Hotel and Norfolk Catholic High School and had worked as a domestic worker. Amanda was a member of the Gilmerton Star AME Zion Church and served on its Usher Board. Amanda leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Benjamin F. Parker; two daughters, Pearl Oldham (John) and Beverly Jackson-Hinkle (David), both of Virginia Beach; a son, Nathanial Jernigan of New York; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Elaine Dunn of Chesapeake and Jean Spruill of Norfolk; a brother, Joseph Mackey Jr. of Portsmouth; an uncle and aunt, Malcolm and Annie Carrington of Portsmouth; three sisters-in-law; a brother-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A funeral will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Gilmerton Star AME Zion Church by the Rev. C. Eason. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery . The family will be at the residence. Graves Funeral Home is in charge.
