JOHN W. PARKS - Many of our citizens will learn with pain that this gentleman, so well know in our city and surround country, breathed his last yesterday afternoon, at the Hospital of St. Vincent de Paul, of consumption, after a confinement of a few weeks. Capt. Parks was a veteran of two wars, having served in the Navy during the was with Mexico, and participated in the bombardment of Vera Cruz. He resigned in 1852, and pursued peaceful avocations until the late war broke out, when he entered the Confederate service as an engineer. Since the war he has been employed on the Albemarle Albemarle and Chesapeake Canal, and personally superintended the dredging operations on that work. He was a man of noble impulse, generous to a fault, and was much like by all with whom he was thrown in contact. His funeral will take place a 4 o'clock this afternoon, from the residence of his brother, Marshall Parks, Esq., on Freemason St. File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/va/norfolkcity/obits/p/parks12851gob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/vafiles/ File size: 1.5 Kb
