Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Thursday, January 14, 1999 
Florence Smith Patterson of the 100 block of Suburban Parkway peacefully
departed into eternal rest at her residence on Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1999.

She was a native of Norfolk and the daughter of the late Henry E. Sr. and Osia
Brown Smith. She was a dedicated member of First Baptist Church Bolling Brook,
where she was a faithful and devoted mother of the church. She was also a member
of the Lucy B. Slater Missionary Society, trustee board, senior choir and the
former church organist. She had also been the organist at Mount Carmel Baptist
Church, Norfolk. She was retired from the Norfolk Public Schools as a dietitian.

She leaves to cherish her memory a loving son, Marcel Patterson; a brother,
Henry E. Smith Jr., and his wife, Ruth; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and
friends. She was predeceased by a sister, Pinkie Irene Faulcon, and three
brothers, Seldon L. Smith, George Dennis Smith and Charles B. Smith.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church Bolling
Brook, 120 Filbert St., by the Rev. Clinton Brown. Interment will be in Calvary
Cemetery . Viewing will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Riddick Funeral
Service. The family will receive friends at the home of her brother, 912 Widgeon
Road, Norfolk.
