A native of Campbell County, he was born August 20, 1885, son of Thomas Edward and Jeffie Morris Payne. He was known to his friends as "Judge" Payne. He is survived by his wife, Helen McLaughlin Payne, formerly of Lynchburg; a son, L. Kimball Payne, Jr., USNR; a daughter, Mrs. James F. Van Namee, of Charlotte, N.C.; a grandson, James F. Van Namee, Jr., of Charlotte; a brother, R.C. Payne, of Lynchburg, and two sisters, Mrs. B.A. Cunningham and Mrs. A.J. Jacobs, both of Akron, Ohio. The body will be taken from the H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments to Sacred Heart Catholic Church for funeral services Monday at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. ************************************************************************ Leonard Kimball Payne – The body of Mr. Payne, who died Thursday night at the residence at Alanton, Princess Anne County, will be taken to Sacred Heart Catholic Church for services Monday at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
