Virginian-Pilot January 13, 1899
MR. GEORGE PAYNE, who has been kindly cared for at St. Vincent’s Hospital for the 
past eighteen years, departed this life at that institution at 1 o’clock yesterday 
morning after an illness of three months, aged 85 years. The deceased was an 
intense sufferer from heart trouble. He leaves neither wife nor children. The 
funeral will take place from the hospital at 2:30 o’clock this afternoon.
