Norfolk - Mrs. Mary P. Payton of 611 W. 34th street, died Jan. 18 in a hospital 
after a short illness.  She ws given final rites Sunday at First Calvary Baptist 
Church by the Rev. C. E. Griffin.  Burial was in Calvary Cemetery with Hale 
Funeral Home in charge.

A native of Warrenton, NC, she was a daughter of Conrad Williams, the 
stepdaughter of Mrs. Annie Tunstall and the widow of Percy E. Payton.  She was a 
member of First Calvary Baptist Church.

Mrs. Payton is survived by seven sons, Perry E. Payton Jr., James W. Payton, Leon 
A. Payton, Milton Payton, Pernell C. Payton, Earl B. Payton and Nathan T. 
Payton, and five daughters, Mrs. Dalsy L. Reid, Mrs. Evelyn Wiggins, Miss 
Vernell Payton, Mrs. Novella Whittaker, and Mrs. Velma Collins, all of Norfolk;  
a brother, Henry Williams of New Jersey;  two sisters, Mrs. Geneva Pitchford of 
Warrenton and Mrs. Leonie Stevenson of Norlina, NC;  and 45 grandchildren.
