Peter Pearson, aged 81, and one of the best known mariners in this part of the United States, died yesterday morning at 5:30 o'clock at his residence, 1815 Arlington Avenue. For many years he was superintendent of transportation for the P. Dougherty Company of Baltimore, which concern operated one of the largest fleets of tugs and barges on the East Coast. He was stationed in Norfolk for a number of years and was known to practically every steamship, schooner or barge captain from Florida to Maine. To his close friends he was known affectionately as "Captain Pete." Born in Sweden, Captain Pearson came to Norfolk 23 years ago and made his home here. He had many interesting experiences during his long life. He had been a skipper of many vessels and could always tell stories of narrow escapes from death in storms at sea. He is survived by a son, James T. Pearson; three granddaughters, Mrs. Marshall Flannagan, Mrs. Franklin D. Pickard and Mary Eleanor Flannagan. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, 1501 Colonial Avenue and will be conducted by the Rev. M.J. Harrison and the Rev. M.J. Hartigan. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. ************************************************************************ PEARSON, CAPT.
