J. Pebworth an old and highly respected citizen of this city, who died at the home of his son,John L. Pebworth, in Suffolk at 7:50 o'clock Sunday morning, aged about 70 years, took place from the residence of his son-in-law Mr. L. O. Ayres, No. 116 Reservoir Avenue at 5:30 o'clock yesterday afternoon. The services were conducted by the Rev. W. D. Smith f St. Peter's P. E. Church assisted by the Rev. J. J. Hall of the Park Avenue Baptist Church. The deceased went to Suffolk about four weeks ago to pay an annual visit to his son and was taken sick about two weeks ago, when his was was summoned to his bedside and she too was soon taken sick, but is now much improved. Mr. Pebworth was a well known citizen of Norfolk, where he had lived for a long number of years and was a faithful soldier in the Confederate army. He leaves a wife and four children - John L. Pebworth of Suffolk; Mrs. W. G. Ashley and Mrs. L. O. Ayres of Norfolk and Mrs. C. S. Gorgas of Atlanta, Ga. The remains arrived here Sunday night over the Norfolk and Western Railroad.
