He had operated the agency 37 years at his retirement in 1956. A native of Green County, N.C., he lived in this area 48 years. He was the husband of Mrs. Edna Ward Peebles and a son of William Allen and Mrs. Elizabeth Walston Peebles. He was a member of Indian River Baptist Church, Manteo Masonic Lodge 521, New Bern Consistory 3 of Scottish Rite Bodies, and Sudan Temple of the Shrine, New Bern. Besides his widow, surviving are a stepson, Robert H. Spencer of Danville; three sisters, Mrs. Bessie P. Meacom, Mrs. Pearl P. Sprouse and Mrs. Alice P. White of Chesapeake; a brother, J. Oscar Peebles of West Chester, Pa.; and a grandchild. A funeral service will be conducted in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home Thursday at 2 p.m. by the Rev. John T. Dearing of Indian River Baptist Church and the Rev. D.S. Moyers of Spurgeon Memorial Baptist Church. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
