Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - October 22, 2008
 NORFOLK - Doretha M. Pernell of the 700 block of E. 27th St. passed away 
Thursday, Oct. 16, 2008, in her home. She was born in Red Springs, N.C., to the 
late William and Ruth Mckoy. She was the widow of Leon R. Pernell . She was a 
trustee at First United Presbyterian Church. She is survived by two sisters, 
Maxine Lightner and Myrtle Hogue; one brother, William Harold McKoy (Pearle); 
two special nieces, Joanne V. Brickhouse (Michael Sr.) and Doretha High (Zeb 
Sr.); and a host of nieces, nephews and friend. A funeral will be held Thursday 
at noon in First United Presbyterian Church, 745 East 29th St., Norfolk, VA 
23504. The Rev. Ditawa N. Nianda will officiate. The remains will be ready for 
viewing today from 3:30 to 8 p.m. Carlos A. Howard Funeral Homes, Norfolk 
Chapel, is in charge. The family will assemble at the church at 11:45 a.m. 
Thursday. The remains will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. In lieu of 
flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First United Presbyterian Church.
