Born in Norfolk, she was a retired teacher from the Norfolk public school system. She was a member of First Baptist Church, the Women's Chorus, Gleaners Ministry and Usher Board No. 2. She was also a member of Friends of the Home for the Aged (Shepherds Village), Dora Billups Missionary Circle, Theater Guild, NEA, NAACP, and Norfolk Federation of Colored Women's Clubs. She was educated in the public schools of Norfolk, and received her B.S. degree and master's degree from Virginia State College (University) in Petersburg, Va. She is survived by a god daughter, Majoria Robinson; close friends, Virginia Paxton, Elizabeth Anderson, Arvetta B. Phillips, Edith Stanley; and her two caregivers, Martha Jones and Patricia Turner. A funeral will be held Friday at 1 p.m. in First Baptist Church, 418 E. Bute St., Norfolk, by Dr. Robert G. Murray. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery , St. Julian Avenue, Norfolk.Hale Funeral Home is in charge.
