Virginian Pilot July 17, 1993

Hester Leah Perry, 94, of the 300 block of Sparrow Road, died Thursday, July 15, 
1993, in Sentara Leigh Hospital.
Mrs. Perry was born in Clayton, Ga., in Rayburn County. She was retired from the 
Norfolk Naval Base and was a Baptist. She was the daughter of the late Virgil 
and Sara English Philyaw and was the widow of Joseph L. Perry.
She is survived by two daughters, De Loise L. Coates Stonecyper of Chesapeake 
and Dolly Nadine Eller of Norfolk; one son, Joseph L. Perry Jr. of Virginia 
Beach; one sister, Phelsie Newman of El Cajon, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; 15 
great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in Elmwood Cemetery, 
Norfolk, with the Rev. Ron Winke officiating. The family will receive friends at 
Twiford Colonial Chapel, Great Bridge, Chesapeake, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday, 
and other times at the home of the daughter, De Loise L. Coates Stonecyper, 300 
Sparrow Road, Chesapeake.
