Norfolk - Melvin Alfonza Perry Sr., of 725 Lanvale St., an employee of Local
1248, International Longshoremen’s Association, died Wednesday, Sept. 21, in his
home.  

A native of Norfolk, he was the husband of the late Mrs. Jenny Perry.  He was an
Army veteran of World War II.

He was a member of Metropolitan AME Church on Springfield Avenue.

Survivors include a daughter, Miss Cheryl Jones of Norfolk;  four sons, Melvin
Alfonza Perry Jr., and Alfonza Jones of Norfolk;  and Benjamin Perry and Gene L.
Perry of Boston;  a brother, Robert Perry of Brooklyn;  and six grandchildren.

A funeral was held Saturday, Oct. 1, in Elton Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev.
Richard A. Councill.  Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.  The family will be at
the funeral home tonight from 7 to 8 and at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
