She was born in South Norfolk, VA, the eighth child of nine born to Charlie Wayne and Theolinda Elizabeth Neeb Dailey, parents of Irish/German descent. She was recognized as the youngest student to graduate with honors from De Paul Hospital School of Nursing, Norfolk, Virginia, as a Registered Nurse in September 1948. She especially enjoyed working with children on the pediatric unit. She also worked at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia. She was a devout Catholic and one of the founding members and parishioner of St. Pius X Catholic Church for 60 years. Following her nursing career, she then enjoyed raising her five active children and had a love for gardening. Dorothy was predeceased by her husbands, Dr. W. Thomas Holman, MD, and Captain Albert Dominic Petrulis USMM, and daughter, Dr. Linda A. Moore, DDS. Survivors include her sister, Mrs. Gloria Wiggins, RN, her children, CAPT Thomas Holman USN (Elaine), CDR Charles Holman USCG (April), Caroline Petrulis BSCS, CAPT Peter Petrulis USMM (Kimberlie), 6 grandchildren (James, Daniel, Andrew, John, David and Josephine), and 4 great-grandchildren (Pierce, Sophie, Tessa and Averie). A viewing will be held on September 3rd from 10:00 - 10:45 AM at St. Nicholas Catholic Church. A funeral mass will be held on September 3rd at 11 AM at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, 712 Little Neck Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23452 followed by burial at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, 3000 Church St. Norfolk, VA, 23504. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St Joseph's Villa for Children, 8000 Brook Road, Richmond, VA 23227 or Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters.
