The Norfolk Virginian Pilot July 14, 1937
Mrs. Margaret Elizabeth Pettit, aged 78, died at her residence, 323 West 
Thirteenth street, yesterday morning at 6:10 o'clock after a long illness.  She 
was a native and lifelong resident of Norfolk, widow of Robert W. Pettit and 
daughter of William C. and Mrs. Margaret Williams Godfrey.  She is survived by 
one son, William E. Pettit, Norfolk. 
Services will be conducted at the funeral home of E. Lee Cox & Bro., 631 
Westover avenue, this afternoon at 4 o'clock.  The Rev. Sparks W. Melton, D.D., 
pastor of Freemason Street Baptist Church, will officiate.  Burial will be 
private.
