W.T. Phelps, which occurred on the tug Albatross, owned by P. Dougherty, of Baltimore, last Saturday while en route to New York City. Captain Phelps was a sufferer from Bright's disease. The remains were put on the tug at the quarantine station, Staten Island, N.Y., to await the orders of the family, and will arrive here this morning for funeral and interment. He was mate on the tug Albatross and was a master pilot. He had commanded a number of different tugs in this harbor. The deceased was a native of Edenton, N.C. and was 59 years old, but had been a resident of Berkley about 30 years. He is survived by a widow, who lives in Walnut Street and two sons, Capt. E.A. and J.T. Phelps. THOMAS F. PHELPS, aged 59 years. Funeral and interment in Magnolia Cemetery THIS (Wednesday) MORNING, June 22, at 10 o'clock. Friends and acquaintances of the family respectfully invited. CAPT. PHELPS' FUNERAL TODAY The remains of the late Capt. Thos. F. Phelps, who died at sea on the tug Albatross last Saturday, arrived here yesterday evening for funeral and interment, which will take place in Magnolia Cemetery this morning at 10 o'clock. Captain Phelps was one of the best known men on this side of the river. Invariably after one of his voyages he would pay a visit to his friends, thus keeping anew his acquaintances. Captain was one of those jovial kind of fellows who always made friends and he had many. Thomas Jefferson Council No. 16, Order of Fraternal Americans, of which the deceased was a member will assemble at the grave in Magnolia Cemetery this morning to pay the last sad tribute to his memory. Virginian Pilot Wednesday June 22, 1910 *************************************** The funeral of the late Capt. Wm. T. Phelps took place at the grave in Magnolia Cemetery yesterday morning at 10 o'clock and was largely attended. Rev. W.W. Lear D.D., pastor of Memorial M.E. Church, officiated. Thomas Jefferson Council Order of Fraternal Americans, were present at the funeral in a body, Captain Phelps having been a member of that organization. The following gentlemen acted as pallbearers: Messrs. George Coxon, Harry W. Cobb, C. West, F.H. Spear, F. Powell, Q.T. Humphries Wm. D. Starke and Jesse T. Nichols.
