Virginian Pilot and The Norfolk Landmark January 24,1928

Mrs. Mary Anne Phelps, aged 70, died yesterday morning at 2 o'clock at the 
home of her son, Capt. E.A. Phelps, 303 Poplar Avenue.  Mrs. Phelps was a 
native of Shawboro, Currituck County, N.C., but had lived here for 48 years.  
She was the widow of Capt. W.T. Phelps and is survived by two sons, Capt. 
E.A. and Joseph T. Phelps, of Norfolk; two brothers, W.R. and H.S. Gilbert, 
of Camden County, N.C.; one sister, Mrs. Frank Bell, of Elizabeth City, N.C. 
and 12 grandchildren.  She was an active member of Memorial Methodist Church 
and had a wide circle of friends.
Funeral services will be held this afternoon at the funeral home of E. Lee 
Cox, 124 East Berkley Avenue.  Burial will be in the family lot in Magnolia 
Cemetery.

PHELPS - At the residence of her son, Capt. E.A. Phelps, 303 Poplar Avenue, 
Monday morning, January 23, 1928, at 2 o'clock, MRS. MARY ANNE PHELPS, widow 
of Capt. W.T. Phelps and daughter of the late Andrew and Mrs. Ann Turner 
Gilbert, aged 70 years, 6 months and 17 days.
Funeral services will be conducted THIS (Tuesday) AFTERNOON, January 24, at 
3:30 o'clock at the funeral home of E. Lee Cox, 124 East Berkley Avenue.  
burial will be in the family lot in Magnolia Cemetery.  Friends of the 
family are invited.
