Norfolk Virginian Pilot May 3, 1937
Samuel Lathan Phelps, aged 70, died last night at 8:30 o'clock at his 
residence, 1441 Perry street, South Norfolk, after a brief illness.
Mr. Phelps was a native of Lynchburg and had lived in this section for 48 
years.  He was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Samuel L. Phelps and besides his 
wife, Mrs. Laura Bush Phelps, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Anna 
Montgomery and Mrs. C.R. Wallace, both of South Norfolk, and three sisters, 
Mrs. Emma Wierringo, Roanoke, and Mrs. Lee Waters and Mrs. Maggie Scampolina, 
of Lynchburg.
The body was taken to the Graham Funeral Home, Jackson and Jefferson streets, 
South Norfolk, where funeral services will be conducted tomorrow afternoon at 
3:30 o'clock.  Burial will be in Riverside Memorial Park.
