                          J. Webster Phillips Dead

J. Webster Phillips, a well-known citizen of this place, died yesterday morning 
at 1:40 o'clock at the home of his sister, Mrs. C.R. Caves, 607 Montalant 
Avenue, after an illness of three months.
The deceased was in the 56th year of his age and had been a resident of this 
section at intervals for fifteen years.  
He was born near Pittsburg, Pa., where he lived until he came to this section.  
In addition to a sister and brother, he leaves a cousin, W.H. Phillips, of this 
place.  During the earlier part of his life, he followed farming but retired 
from that vocation several years ago.
The funeral will be conducted from the residence this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock 
and the interment will be in Magnolia Cemetery.

The funeral of the late John Webster Philips, who died Monday morning, was 
conducted from the residence of his sister, Mrs. C.R. Caves, in Montalant 
Avenue, yesterday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock.
Rev. J.T.T. Hundley, pastor of the Disciples' Church, Norfolk, officiated.  
There was quite a large number of friends of the deceased in attendance, and the 
floral tributes were numerous and beautiful.
The interment was in Magnolia Cemetery and the following acted as pallbearers: 
Messrs. F.M. Smith, L. Berkley, Z.E. Keister, Pascal Paxson, Dr. Walker, H.T. 
Law, Spicer and Slagle.
