PHILLIPS — In Pasadena, California, Sunday night, May 7th, Mr. SAM’L W. 
PHILLIPS, son of Samuel C. Phillips, aged 29 years.
Notice of funeral will be announced on the arrival of the remains.

MR. SAMUEL W. PHILLIPS
FUNERAL FROM ST. MARY’S CATHOLIC CHURCH THURSDAY MORNING.
The remains of Mr. Samuel W. Phillips, who died in Pasadena, Cal., notice of 
which sad event was publish'd in this paper of Tuesday, of last week, will 
arrive in Norfolk today and will be buried from St. Mary’s Catholic Church 
Thursday morning at 10 o’clock.
The remains were delayed until the 12th instant on account of the expected 
arrival of the wife of Mr. Phillips from Honolulu. She left by bark S. C. Allen 
on April 25th and has not yet been heard from. Mrs. Phillips expected on 
reaching her husband to find him convalescing.
The following is taken from the Commerce and Advocate of Honolulu, May 29, 1898:
“Married at Honolulu, May 28, 1898, Miss Kate Howland, niece of President Dole, 
to Mr. Samuel W. Phillips, of Norfolk, Va. She is an accomplished young lady. 
They were married at the residence of President Dole."
