Pierce, 20 years old, a brakeman on the N.Y.P. & N. Railroad, was caught between a moving car and a platform in Port Norfolk at 10:30 o'clock yesterday morning, and injured to such an extent that he died a half hour later as he was being lifted into an ambulance to be taken to the hospital. An inquest will be held next Thursday night in police headquarters. It was stated by the police that when Pierce was caught between the moving car and the platform his body was rolled through close contact, injuring him to such an extent that he was unconscious when he was extricated. Pierce was the son of Rev. E.S. Pierce, a Baptist clergyman, of Farmville, Va. Besides his father he is survived by two sisters and four brothers. He served with the A.E.F. in France during the war without injury. He had been in the employ of the N.Y.P & N. for two months. He lived with his uncle, J.Q. Pierce, at 507 First Street.
