He was a native of Racine, Wis. He was the son of the late Gustav and Elizabeth Grace Pinard Thompson. Mr. Pinard was predeceased by his brother, George G. Thompson Jr., of Portsmouth. He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Mary Claire Pinard; his two sons, Henry F. Pinard, of Colorado Springs, Colo., Christopher J. Pinard, his wife Pati and their two children, Jeremy Q. Kane and Mary Grace Pinard, all of Virginia Beach. Mr. Pinard served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean War. After leaving the military, he worked with the Army Corps of Engineers. He later worked as a machinist at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Norfolk and the Nocturnal Society. Also, he was a volunteer at DePaul Hospital and Catholic Charities. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at Christ the King Catholic Church Monday, May 4, at 10:30 a.m. by Father Brian Rafferty. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. A Christian wake will be held Sunday in the church at 7 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Christ the King Catholic Church or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis.
