Panella, Club Operator, Succumbs at 49 Frank Joseph Panella, 49, co-manager of the exclusive Twenty-ninth Division Association Club on West Tazewell Street since it was established almost four years ago, died suddenly of a heart attack at his home, 501 Carlisle Way, yesterday about 1 p.m. The body was taken to the H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments on Colonial Avenue pending funeral arrangements, which had not been completed. His only child, Frank A. Panella, an Army veteran of World War II, was expected home momentarily from the Pacific and funeral arrangements were being withheld pending his arrival. Panella was a veteran of World War I, when he served in the 111th Field Artillery of the famous Twenty-ninth Division and when the Twenty-ninth Division Association decided to open its own club quarters here he and R.N. Falls were selected to be co-managers, positions they had held ever since. The deceased had been engaged in several successful business enterprises, including the Academy Barber Shop and Frank's Barbecue, before he took over the position with the club. He was the son of the late Antonio and Mrs. Mary Vita Panella and had lived in Norfolk since early childhood. He was popular not only with his own club's members but with many other veterans' organizations. In addition to his soldier son he is survived by his wife, Pearl Dinofa Panella and two brothers, Joseph and John J. Panella, both of Norfolk. *************************************************************************** PANELLA, FRANK JOSEPH - At the Residence, No. 501 Carlisle Way, Monday, March 4, 1946, at 1 o’clock p.m., FRANK JOSEPH, husband of Mrs. Pearl Dinofa Panella and son of Antonio and Mrs. Mary Vita Panella, in the 50th year of his age.
