Pitt Jr., 79, died on February 25, 2015, in Pennsylvania with his loving family at his side. He was a native of Portsmouth, Virginia, and was raised in Norfolk within the parish of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He was the son of the late William L. Pitt and Mary Frances O'Brien Pitt. Monsignor Pitt, received his Licentiate of Sacred Theology (STL) from St. Mary Seminary, Baltimore, Maryland, and was ordained a Roman Catholic priest on May 1, 1961. He earned his Master's degree in Classical Languages from The Catholic University in 1964. He was a Teacher and Assistant Principal at St. John Vianney Seminary in Richmond from 1961-1967 and Assistant Pastor, St. Patrick's Parish, Richmond and a Teacher at St. Patrick's and Cathedral High Schools from 1967-1968. He moved back to Norfolk in 1968 and became the Principal of Norfolk Catholic High School until 1972. In 1971, he was Pastor of Christ the King Parish in Norfolk until 1973 and was the Chancellor and Vicar General of the Diocese of Richmond until 1985. In 1985, he became the Pastor of Immaculate Conception Parish in Hampton until 1992. He was the Principal of Bishop Sullivan Catholic High School in Virginia Beach from 1992 until his retirement in 2004. In his retirement, he was generous with his time, supporting local parishes, schools and priests. The Mass of Christian Burial will be said in Norfolk at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Wednesday, March 4th, 2015, at 6PM. The Reverend Father James Griffin will officiate. The family will receive friends in the church two hours prior to the Mass. Interment will be private in St. Mary's Cemetery.
