D. Oliver, 518 Freemason street Thursday, was held from St. Mary’s Catholic Church, of which the deceased was long a member, at 10 o’clock a.m. yesterday and was largely attended. Requiem mass was celebrated by Father John J. Doherty of St. Mary’s, with Rev. Joseph Frioli, of Newport News, as deacon; Rev. Joseph A. Foley of Baltimore, subdeacon, and Rev. E. J. Walsh of St. Mary’s, Norfolk, master of ceremonies. The following priests occupied seats in the sanctuary: Rev. Hugh McKeefry of Richmond; Rev. T. J. Wilson of Old Point Comfort; Rev. M. J. Shearn, chaplain of Old Point Comfort College, Rev. R. A. Drake of Sacred Heart Church, Norfolk; Rev. Father Smith, chaplain of St. Vincent’s Hospital, Norfolk; Rev. J. A. Kelliher of the Italian church, Norfolk, Rev. Thomas Dowling of Sacred Heart Church, Norfolk. The orphans of St. Mary’s Asylum attended the obsequies in a body. During the service, Mrs. James Hughes sang, “O Salutarus,” and “Abide with Me.” The interment was in St. Mary’s cemetery. Following were the pallbearers: Wm. Hannan, James V. Trehy, John R. Coleman, James E. Prince, John F. Lawler, W. M. Macon, J. V. Kiernan and John J. Burk.
