He was predeceased by his parents, Maurice and Sylvia Fine Pogolowitz. Elliot was a lifelong Norfolk area resident with many caring friends who have been so attentive through his ordeal. He graduated from Maury High School, Class of 1964, where he played football, and went to college on a wrestling scholarship. He graduated from UNC Wilmington. Elliot was very active with the Jerry Sazio-Maury Football Group and Foundation. He retired after 25 years with New York Life Insurance and prior to his career with them, worked in consumer affairs for the City of Norfolk, and was a loyal employee for many years at the Botanical Gardens, but began his career with George Kaufman at Guest Quarters. Elliot also worked for many years at Scope and always had entertaining stories about his time there. His true love was his grandchildren, the beach, and beach music. He always said he never met a summer day he didn't love. He is survived by his wife, Rosalyn Levy August Pogolowitz; his devoted brothers, Joel and Ann Pogolowitz of Fair Lawn, NJ, Jeff and Nancy Pogolowitz, of Portland, OR, and Richard Pogolowitz and Linda Streem of Wynnewood, PA; and nine loving nieces and nephews. He has been a loving stepfather to Meredith and Steve Cheifetz of Ambler, PA, and Adam and Brooke August of Potomac, MD, and Elliot was most proud of being POP POP to six grandchildren. The family would like to express their thanks to the staff of Virginia Oncology, particularly Angela who allowed him to have the title of "mayor of the chemo room and to the dedicated staff at Beth Sholom Home. His amazing good nature and jovial personality will be missed by all who knew him. A funeral will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. today, Feb. 8, in the Norfolk Chapel of H. D. Oliver Funeral Apts. Burial will follow in B'Nai Israel Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Pembroke Towers, Apt. 508 through this evening and will then return home to sit Shiva in their respective communities.
