NORFOLK - Joseph E. "Gene" Poole Jr., 77, passed away Jan. 20, 2008. He served for 
four years in the U.S. Navy and retired from the City of Norfolk, Department of 
Utilities.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Marzie Mildred Poole; parents, Joseph E. 
and Florence U. Poole; and brother, Charles Vincent Poole. He is survived by five 
children, Laura Jean Cox of Aurora, N.C., Linda M. Matthews, Joseph Poole III, and 
wife, Sharon, and David M. Poole, all of Tidewater and Nancy C. Myers of 
Indialantic, Fla.; siblings, Audrey F. Poole, Robert E. Poole, John Mark Poole 
(Peggy) and Margaret Poole-Anten (Harold); 12 grandchildren and great-
grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A graveside service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in St. Mary's Cemetery, 
Norfolk. Altmeyer Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Memorial donations may be made to Christ the King Church in appreciation of Mr. 
and Mrs. Hayes.
