NORFOLK – Joseph Eugene Poole, Sr., 84, of the 1300 block of Kempsville Road, a 
retired self-employed contractor, died Nov. 18, 1988, in a hospital.
Mr. Poole, a native of York, Pa., was the widower of Florence Umstead Poole. He 
was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include two daughters, Audrey F. Poole of Baltimore and Marge Poole-
Anten of Norfolk; four sons, Joseph E. Poole, Jr. and John M. Poole, both of 
Norfolk, Charles V. Poole of Richmond and Robert E. Poole of Virginia Beach; 16 
grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in St. Mary’s Cemetery, 
Norfolk, by the Rev. Thomas Quinlan. Friends may join the family at 7 p.m. today 
in H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, Norfolk.
Memorial donations may be made to the Madonna Home, 814 W. 37th St., Norfolk.
