Porter died at his home 928 Holt street, yesterday morning, in the 71st year of his age. The deceased was a native of Connecticut but had resided in this section twenty years dividing his time between Norfolk and Portsmouth, his last residence being in this city. For the last eight years he having been connected with the Armour Packing Company. He was a man of generous impulses and kindly disposition and was highly esteemed by a large circle of friends. He is survived by a widow and one sister, Mrs. E.E. Fitch of Hartford, Conn., who was with him during his last hours. Although a native of a New England State, he was a Confederate Veteran and followed the fortunes of the Confederacy throughout the war between the States. The funeral will be held at his late residence at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon and will be conducted by Rev. E.J. Walsh, of St. Mary's Catholic church. Interment in Elmwood cemetery.
