Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Tuesday, December 27, 1994
Nellie Mae Porter, 72, of the 1000 block of Rugby St., a retired private duty 
nurse, died Dec. 21, 1994, in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. 

Mrs. Porter was a member of Jerusalem Baptist Church and the daughter of the 
late Edward Jones. 

Survivors include her husband, Herbert H. Porter; four daughters, Nellie M. 
Wood, Gail Burke, Rosa Harris and Mary Bowser; a son, William Porter; her 
mother, Mary Jones Drake; three sisters, Maggie Barringer, Margie Blount and 
Odessa King; two brothers, Joseph Drake of Norfolk and Calvin Drake of New York; 
grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends. 

A funeral will be conducted at noon Wednesday in Jerusalem Baptist Church, 
Norfolk, by the Rev. Thomas Venable. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery . A wake 
service will be held at Hale Funeral Home from 7 to 8 p.m. today.
