POWELL, in the 74th year of his age. Funeral services from the residence THIS (Sunday) AFTERNOON at 3:30 o'clock. Friends of the family are invited to attend. *********** John R. Powell died at his home, 117 North Marshall Avenue, yesterday morning. The deceased was a native of North Carolina, but had been a resident of Norfolk for quite a number of years. He was at one time connected with the firm of Barham and Pollard, who conducted business on Roanoke Dock. He was well known from his long association in produce commission business of Norfolk and was held in high esteem in the community. Mr. Powell was a Confederate veteran, and followed the fortunes of General Lee throughout the war. He is survived by a widow, two daughters, and two sons. He was a member of Pickett-Buchanan Camp Confederate Veterans, which will attend his funeral, which takes place from his late residence at 3 o'clock this afternoon. ******************************************************************************** The funeral of the late John R. Powell, who died at his home, 117 North Marshall Avenue, Brambleton, Saturday in the 74th year of his age, was held from the family residence Sunday afternoon and was numerously attended, including Pickett-Buchanan Camp of Confederate Veterans, of which the deceased was a member. The service was conducted by Rev. A.J. Fristoe, D.D., of the Park Avenue Baptist Church. The interment was in Elmwood Cemetery and the pallbearers were as follows: B.G. Pollard, Howard Williams, J.T. Wood, Dennis Etheridge, Ludlow Watkins and John Cahill. He leaves a widow and five children - Mrs. Rosa Constable, of Mount Washington, Va., W.C. Powell, Julian Powell, Paul Powell and Mrs. J.M. Gwaltney, of Norfolk.
