Virginian-Pilot January 8, 1901
Mr. John Powers, aged 51 years, died early Sunday morning at the home of his 
sister, Mrs. Daniel Seay, No. 86 Falkland street. The deceased was formerly a 
resident of New York and came to Norfolk about six months ago. The funeral took 
place from St. Mary’s Catholic Church yesterday morning at 9 o’clock and was 
attended by friends of the family. Rev. Father Doherty officiated at the requiem 
mass. The following were the pallbearers: Messrs. W. M. Hannan, J. R. Coleman, 
John Lester, Thomas H. Donovan, Thomas Fitzgibbon and Mr. Murphy. The interment 
was in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
