Virginian-Pilot  December 31, 1941
John Prendergast, aged 86, of Indian River Park, died last night at 8:15 o’clock 
in a local hospital after a comparatively brief illness. He was a native of 
Ireland, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Prendergast, and had made his home in 
this section 60 years and was the widower of Annie Gannon Prendergast. He is 
survived by two daughters, Mrs. James Owens, of Indian River Park, and Mrs. James 
Fields, of Philadelphia, Pa.: two sons, John Prendergast, of Philadelphia, and 
James Prendergast, of Indian River Park; five grandchildren, three great-
grandchildren and a brother, Thomas Prendergast.
He was a member of St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, Berkley. The body was taken to 
the Graham Funeral Home, Jackson and Jefferson streets, South Norfolk. Funeral 
services will be conducted in St. Matthew’s Catholic Church Friday morning at 10 
o’clock and interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
