An Arkansas native, Bud was retired from the U.S. Navy after 20 years of service and from the Norfolk Naval Air Station Supply Department after 22 years of service. He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, where he was on the count team and was an usher for many years. He was also a member of Fleet Reserve Branch No. 60. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Mary Ellen Prestridge; daughter, Maryjo Prestridge, of Charlotte, N.C.; sons, Burton Prestridge, and his wife, Sandi, of Norfolk, and Robert Prestridge, and his wife, Bonnie, of Virginia Beach; and four granddaughters, Rebecca Sprangers, of Virginia Beach, Amy Drybread, of Iola, Kan., Melanie Prestridge, of Atlanta, Ga., and Dr. Adrienne Prestridge, of Pittsburgh, Pa. He was predeceased by a son, William Prestridge. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated by the Rev. R. Francis Muench at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 7800 Halprin Drive, Norfolk. Entombment will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
