Born April 25, 1952, in Norfolk, she was a graduate of Norfolk State University and a teacher in the Norfolk Public Schools System for more than 25 years. Theresa was a member of the Basilica of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception, where she served as a member of the Basilica Mass Choir, the Gospel Choir, and the St. Mary Bereavement Committee. She was also a sacramental preparation instructor and a former coordinator for the Community Life Coordinator with the Parish Council. Theresa was a devoted wife and mother, and led a prayerful life serving the Lord. She was a wonderful person with a big heart, which she unselfishly shared with her family, her friends and her church. Teaching was her passion and she shared that 29-year devotion with co-workers and scores of students. She was honored as the Booker T. Washington High School Teacher of the year in 2000. Theresa was predeceased by her father, Lee Broadnax Sr., and her mother-in-law, Barbara Belardo Pretlow. She leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband, Robert; three children, Brian, Erin and Lindsey, her mother, Julia Broadnax; father-in-law, R. Neil Pretlow Sr.; six brothers, Lee “Butch” (Reda), Anthony, Carl, Dwayne (Tracy), Michael (Erika) and Jerry (Monica); one sister, Siboney (Brian); two granddaughters, Kiera and Ella; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Lynette (Joe), Barbara (David), Linda (Jose) and Ruth (Tony); and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. Friday followed by a wake from 7 to 8 p.m. at Metropolitan Funeral Service, 7246 Granby St., Norfolk. A Mass of Resurrection will be held noon Saturday at the Basilica of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception, Norfolk. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Norfolk. Family and friends will assemble at 5208 Balboa Drive one hour prior to the service for the procession to the church. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.metropolitanfuneralservice.com.
