Norfolk - Garland Clinton Pretlow Sr., 76, a funeral director 45 years and owner 
of Pretlows Funeral Home in Berkley, died recently in a hospital after a short 
illness.  He lived at 1202 Pike street.

A native of Norfolk, he was the husband of Mrs. Lillie C. Pretlow and a son of 
Clinton and Mrs. Nannie Garland Pretlow.

He opened the funeral home in 1927 and was assisted in its operation by his 
sons, Garland C. Pretlow and Roscoe C. Pretlow II.  He was a trustee, former 
church treasurer, past president of the Men’s League, and former Sunday School 
superintendent of New Central Baptist Church.

He was a past president of Norfolk Funeral Directors & Embalmers Association.

Besides his widow and sons of Norfolk, surviving are two daughters,Mrs. Kathryn 
P. Wright and Mrs. Lillie M. Lloyd, a sister, Mrs. Virginia Steward, and a 
brother, Francis J. Pretlow, all of Norfolk;  a grandson, Roscoe C. Pretlow Jr.;  
a granddaughter Wilma Pretlow;  and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Aug. 19 in New Central Baptist Church by the Rev. W. 
B. Westbrook.  Burial was in Calvary Cemetery with Pretlows Funeral Home in 
charge.
