The deceased was born in Liepsic, Germany, in 1822, and in 1848, at the age of 26 years he came to Norfolk, where he has since resided. For many years he conducted a butcher business in the city market, but afterwards engaged in the trucking business, which he conducted until a few years ago when he retired to private life. He served for several years as a member of the councils from the Fourth ward and was also an owner of much real estate. He is survived by a widow and six grown children. His funeral will be solemnized from his late residence at 3 o'clock Thursday afternoon.
